It all started with a high fever. I was diagnosed with stress-related migraines about a year ago, but what followed was a long and painful battle to find the right treatment. For months, I was forced to stay at home, unable to find the right medication. The constant headache and pain made me feel nauseous, helpless, and sick 24/7.
The first doctor I saw didn’t take my condition seriously. He diagnosed me with being “intense from the shoulders,” and prescribed me muscle relaxants and basic painkillers. These medications didn’t help at all. I was sleeping for up to 20 hours a day just to escape the pain, but no matter what I tried, nothing seemed to make a difference.
After finishing the muscle relaxants, I returned to the doctor for another consultation, only to be dismissed after less than five minutes. His advice? Wear sunglasses everywhere. I left that appointment feeling even more hopeless than before. It was clear to me that I couldn’t trust this doctor any longer, so I decided to find someone else who would listen.
The search for the solution
The journey to finding the right care wasn’t easy. I went through several doctors, none of whom offered real solutions or answers. I felt more stressed and anxious with each failed consultation. But then, I found an online doctor who took the time to listen and suggested seeing a neurologist.
This was a turning point. When I met the neurologist, he immediately took a thorough approach, reviewing my medication history and running tests. After a few days, he informed me that I had meningitis—a serious condition that could have been fatal if left untreated. This diagnosis brought a sense of relief because it explained the intensity of my symptoms, but I still had a long road ahead.
The right treatment
The neurologist advised me to stop taking my birth control pill, suspecting it might have been contributing to my migraines. He prescribed me four different medications, which I was to take multiple times a day. First, we needed to treat the meningitis before focusing on finding the right migraine medication.
The first few days on the new medication were tough, but I remember waking up one morning, and for the first time in two months, I didn’t have a headache. It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I felt an overwhelming sense of relief. I knew the worst was behind me, and that I could slowly start to rebuild my life.
The new chapter
While I still have migraines from time to time, the constant, debilitating pain has subsided. I’m now able to go to social gatherings and see friends without the constant pounding inside my head. The journey is far from over, though, I’m still working on finding the right medications to prevent future migraines.
Looking back on this experience, I realize how important it is to find a healthcare provider who listens and takes your symptoms seriously. The relief road wasn’t easy, but I finally feel like I’m on the right track. To anyone struggling with similar issues, I encourage you not to give up. Keep seeking help until you find the solution that works for you.
This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s taught me the importance of persistence and trusting myself. And while I’m not completely migraine-free yet, I now know that there’s hope for anyone who feels trapped in their pain.
